FAQ

What price range are your cakes?

I appreciate that every client has a budget in mind and rest assured that I will do my utmost to ensure you get the most bang for your buck for your special event! Why not get in touch with your requirements and I can provide you with a free no obligation guideline quote.

Wedding Cakes

The design and style of each wedding cake I create is uniquely individual to each couple. As a result, my wedding cakes are priced individually and that pricing will depend on number of tiers, flavours, design and complexity. As a guide, our basic (ie vanilla madeira/lemon drizzle/chocolate biscuit cake, fondant icing finish, simple elegant design) wedding cakes prices are as follows:

3 tier round 6"/8"/10" start at €350

4 tier round 6"/8"/10"/12" start at €450

5 tier round 4"/6"/8"/10"/12" start at €495.

Celebration Cakes

In general my 8" edible printout cakes (which can be personalised with a photo) start at €45, single tier 10" novelty cakes start at €75, and 2 tier 6"/10" cakes start at €120.

Serving(s)

One of the most common questions I’m asked is will there be enough cake to go around.

The standard serving sizes are as follows:

  • 2” x1” for madeira cakes; and
  • 1” x 1” for fruit cakes (which are traditionally served in smaller “finger” portions).

As a guide (based on a madeira cake):

Tiers

Round servings

Square Servings

3 tiers, 6” 8” 10”

72

95

4 tiers, 6” 8” 10” 12”

132

180

5 tiers, 6” 8” 10” 12” 14”

212

260

Not all cakes are standard shapes and sizes, some have deeper tiers, fake tiers or different arrangements and I will be happy to answer any queries you may have about servings.

If the size of the cake you select is not big enough to feed all your guests, I can make you an additional “cutting cake” which is a plain iced square cake with a filling of your choice which you can cut up to meet your serving requirements. Please contact me for prices and details.

What flavours do you create?

I put a lot of time into how my cakes look but I truly believe that it is equally important that they are just as memorable in terms of taste also. This is why I use the best quality fresh ingredients and where I can, local produce, to create as much beauty on the inside of each cake as there is on the outside! You can rest assured that this doesn’t happen by chance, I have invested heavily in testing, tasting and refining my flavours and will continue to do so.

I have created lots of different flavours and can create any flavour you wish. The most popular flavours at the moment are as follows:

Vanilla Bean – a beautiful moist vanilla flavoured cake with layers of vanilla buttercream.

Chocolate Biscuit Cake
– by far the most popular wedding cake flavour at the moment. An indulgent triple chocolate biscuit cake comprised of a variety of crunchy biscuits, Malteesers, Callebut milk chocolate.

Lemon Drizzle
– lemon flavoured light and moist Madeira cake with a zingy and refreshing lemon buttercream.

Red Velvet
– sweet red velvet flavour cake with a vanilla bean buttercream filling.

Chocolate Fudge
– decadent triple chocolate flavoured moist cake with a chocolate or Nutella flavoured buttercream centre.

Raspberry
– light raspberry flavoured cake with a ravishing raspberry buttercream.

Banoffee
– banana flavoured cake interspersed with layers of sticky caramel and vanilla buttercream.

Rich Fruit Cake
– traditional rich fruit cake using a very special recipe that has been handed down from mother to daughter for several generations.

Design Process

Wedding cakes - tasting and consultation

I absolutely love welcoming prospective brides and grooms to my cake studio for a free, no obligation one hour consultation. This provides us with a chance to sit down together over a steaming hot cup of tea or coffee and discuss your theme, colour palette (you may wish to bring a swathe from your bridesmaid dress), potential cake ideas and for you to see some of my amazing creations up close. Feel free to bring along any photos of cakes you like with you to show me on the day. I also have access to a wealth of cakes designs and ideas so don’t worry if you haven’t seen anything you like in your search so far – together, we will design the perfect cake for your special day.

Consultations are by appointment only (click here to contact me). In my experience, the best way to ensure that we get the most from our time together is to keep the number of attendees to two people (eg you and your fiancé(e) or you and your Mum etc). Of course, you and your fiancé(e) will have an opportunity to sample your choice of mouth-watering fillings and there are usually plenty of samples to bring home for your nearest and dearest to sample (the amount of samples to take away depends on your appetite on the day!).

Celebration cakes

The design of our celebration cakes generally takes place online (through Facebook and/or email) or over the phone. Typically I take your ideas and reply with several design options at a range of prices.

Of course, if you would like to arrange a one on one consultation to discuss your celebration cake at my cake studio, please get in touch to make an appointment. A small fee of €25 is payable in advance to secure the consultation booking and this fee is redeemable against the cost of your cake.

Do you make handmade cake toppers?

Wedding cakes

Yes! I create bespoke bride and groom cake toppers to adorn your wedding cake. They are handmade and will reflect your own eye colour, hair colour, hair style etc. The toppers can be dressed in any way you wish, for example in replicas of your wedding attire (you will need to give me a picture of your dress/suit) or decked out in your county or club colours!).

Celebration cakes

As you will have seen from my celebration cakes gallery, I can create a bespoke topper for every occasion! From pet dogs to replica pianos, pieces of jewellery to designer shoes, there’s no limit to how customised your cake topper(s) can be. If you can imagine it, I can craft it!

Fees

Every topper is painstakingly hand crafted by me using my award winning sugar craft skills and artist’s eye. The fees charged will depend on the level of detail, size and complexity of your requested topper. Just get in touch and I’d be happy to provide you with a no obligation quote. As a guide, a basic bride and groom topper dressed in a wedding dress and suit starts at €60.

Bookings, deposits and alterations

Please note that in order to ensure each cake is created to perfection, there is a limit to how many orders I take on.

Wedding cakes

To reserve one of my wedding cakes for your big day, a non-refundable deposit of €100 is required.

In order to avoid disappointment, it is best to book your cake approximately 4-6 months before your wedding. Don’t worry – you don’t have to have chosen a cake when booking in with me – the deposit secures you a space for your chosen date in my diary and we can finalise the cake design and completion price nearer the time.

Celebration cakes

To reserve a celebration cake, I always advise that it is best to book as far in advance as you can – most clients get in touch as soon as they know their event date. As you can imagine, certain times of the year tend to book up extremely quickly (eg Communion and Confirmation season) so it’s best to get booked in as soon as possible. A non-refundable deposit of €25 will secure your celebration cake for your chosen date.

Alterations to wedding and celebration cakes

You can alter the design of your cake up to 1 month before the collection or delivery date. If you are just fine tuning some of the finer details of your cake then I will do my very best to keep the price the same. However, any increase in cost that may arise from a more substantial alteration will be charged accordingly. Likewise, any decrease in cost arising from the alteration will be passed onto you.

Cake stand hire

I have a number of cake and cupcake stands and am happy to hire them to clients for their special event. The hire fee varies depending on the type of stand and a refundable deposit is also required. As other clients may also require use of the stand, they must be returned to me within 3 days of your event (it is your responsibility to ensure the stand is returned). Once the stand is returned on time and in reasonable condition, your deposit will be returned to you.

Do you provide a delivery service?

Wedding cakes

I deliver wedding cakes to anywhere in Ireland! Part of this delivery service includes my attendance at your venue where I will personally assemble and put the finishing touches to your cake on site. You can rest assured that your wedding cake will look simply perfect and the added bonus is that you won’t need to stress about going over potholes or speed bumps! There is a delivery charge and this will depend on both fuel costs and the time taken to travel from my cake studio in Tullahought, Co. Kilkenny to your venue.

Celebration cakes

Celebration cakes can be delivered to Kilkenny city, Waterford city and Clonmel town and a delivery charge of €10 will apply. I also offer local delivery to Carrick-on-Suir, Piltown and Callan for €5. I’m happy to deliver elsewhere by special arrangement – just get in touch and I’ll let you know the delivery charge.

Alternatively, both wedding and celebration cakes can be picked up from my cake studio in Tullahought by prior arrangement.
